How does the coaching relationship start?

It’s easy to overcomplicate these things and so in reality, the coaching relationship starts with an email, a conversation or a phone call.

The process for executive coaching typically involves:

Initial Assessment and Goal Setting

The process begins with an initial assessment to understand your current situation, challenges, and goals.

Contracting and Agreement

We establish a coaching agreement that outlines the scope of the coaching relationship, including confidentiality, roles and responsibilities, logistics, and expectations.

Discovery and Feedback

This sometimes involves gathering additional information through assessments, interviews, and feedback from relevant stakeholders (such as peers, direct reports, and supervisors).

Action Planning

Based on the assessment and feedback, we develop a personalised coaching plan. This typically includes specific goals, strategies, and milestones to work on throughout the coaching process.

Ongoing Coaching Sessions

My coaching sessions typically last 60-90 minutes each. Coaching sessions can be in-person or online and  often focus on topics such as leadership development, communication skills, conflict, performance, decision-making, and career advancement.

Reflection and Integration

Throughout the coaching process, there are opportunities for you, the coachee,  to reflect on their experiences, insights, and progress. This reflection helps deepen self-awareness, reinforce learning, and integrate new behaviours into daily practice.

Monitoring and Evaluation

As the coaching relationship develops, we will periodically review progress toward goals, often adjusting and tweaking the coaching approach.

Closure and Transition

As our coaching engagement nears its conclusion, we reflect on the achievements and lessons learned and identify strategies for sustaining progress beyond the coaching relationship.

Follow-Up and Support

After our formal coaching engagement ends, I am available to provide follow-up support or check-ins to ensure continued progress and support.
